Verified by Intel® Program Overview - "CBB"

To accelerate mobile growth, Intel has collaborated with original design manufacturers (ODMs) and ingredient suppliers to establish the Intel® Interchangeability Initiative. This program is based on the concept of Common Building Blocks (CBBs).
CBBs are notebook ingredients that comply with mechanical and electrical specifications to ensure interchangeability. This allows ingredients from different combinations of suppliers to be tested for interchangeability across different notebook platforms.
Notebook design complexity is a result of diverse product specifications for individual ingredients. The Intel® Interchangeability Initiative is an industry effort to solve the design complexity issue by adopting CBBs, such as hard disk drives (HDDs), optical disk drives (ODDs), liquid crystal display panels (LCDs), battery packs, AC/DC power adapters, keyboards and customizable notebook panels.
